Project on livelihood improvement and elimination of discrimination for waste pickers in Khulna, Bangladesh

Summary

While advocating the community to eliminate the discrimination towards waste pickers, the project conducted activities to improve their waste management skills, working environment and livelihood.

List of activities

  • Formation of the Waste management committee and Waste picking workers’ corporation.
  • Development of education materials / programs of sanitation for waste pickers.
  • Organizing study tours and seminars for waste pickers in collaboration with 40 local schools for environmental education such as cleaning campaign and recycle of valuable wastes.
  • Holding “Community-based waste management forum” and development of community waste management plan.
