A. TRAINING OF TRAINERS & COUNSELORS
BURST has so far organized Two Workshops on Action Plans for HIV-AIDS Control. In addition, we have conducted Seven programs / sessions. In each program, representatives from the voluntary organizations set up to control HIV, participated and prepared action plans for their respective Departments and Organizations, totaling approximately 23 participants.
B. EXTENDING EDUCATION AND AWARENESS BUILDING
BURST has been organizing the World AIDS Day, since December 1, 1999, in collaboration with Sind AIDS Control Program in which over 1000 professionals, community leaders, representatives of voluntary organizations, doctors, nurses, and students participated. An exhibition was also organized in collaboration with Pakistan Social Health Organization. Television and radio broadcasts and panel discussions were also arranged.
In collaboration with the Sind AIDS Control Program with the help of honorable minister of education Ms Zobaida Jalal, undertook a comprehensive HIV - AIDS Awareness Program to cover 2500 high school and college students, office staff, during 1999-2001.
Currently preparing a film on Mental Health, Adjustment, and Rehabilitation of the AIDS Persons. We hope to show this film in schools, colleges, industries, and to the general public throughout Pakistan to create awareness for prevention of HIV, and build social support for the AIDS infected persons for physical, social, psychological, and economic rehabilitation.
DEVELOPMENT OF VOLUNTARY SECTOR
Since the voluntary sector has to play an integral role in the implementation of various programs, BURST has worked with over 10 NGO's in providing training in management, project management, community participation, monitoring and evaluation of programs, strengthening the programs, self-reliance, financial sustainability; development of publicity material for innovative projects.
HEALTH EDUCATION AND COMMUNITY HEALTH DEVELOPMENT
Towards health and development of the community, particularly among high risk groups i.e. the youth, women, industrial workers, and the elderly; BURST has been training the representatives of NGOs to develop health educators, and has been directly conducting programs in Karachi. So far, BURST has covered nearly 60,00 high school and college students, about 150 drivers, mechanics and operators and about 10,000 youth, male and female in 200 slums of Karachi with regard to health related behavior - nutrition, smoking, reproductive health, alcohol, safe sexual practices, STDs - HIV-AIDS, and management of stress related behaviors. BURST has also trained nearly 50 representatives of VOs in health education.
- Materials/equipments used in the project:
- BURST' Office consists of a conference room, seminar rooms, library and administrative offices. BURST has advanced computer facilities and other latest hardware, staffed by competent computer programmers for data analysis, documentation, publishing and research activities. BURST has a library containing over 500 volumes of books, journals and reports.
