Forest for Water, Water for Life program 3 year multidisciplinary program with a strong emphasis on creating public demand for the wise use and management of highland forest in West Malaysia.

The programme consists of various interventions such as information management, field research, policy advocacy, community work and education and awareness.

The program is carried out in partnership with various government agencies, institutions and in collaboration with TREES, a local NGO focussing on the development of a management plan for a proposed stated park.

The Education Unit with FWWL's main objective in mind has managed to implement and develop an education programme that looks into building the capacity of teacher trainers and developing syllabus that is geared towards EE. It has and will look into developing general and community educators and relevant materials for this purpose

Plans for the next 5 years

WWFM has developed a 5 year strategy (2000-2004). A more elaborated strategy related to natural resource management is therefore forthcoming.

The principal is that future micro level plans will ideally be made together with main partners and in participation of other stakeholders and will focus on sustainable land-use and other natural resources practices. Continuing to search for win-win options and striving towards the development of guidelines for wise use and management of natural resources. Model projects will continue to serve as a learning base with the overall goal to illustrate long-term and sustainable alternatives.

Issues related to natural resource management are key to successful conservation work in the wetlands, forest and marine biome and species within it and will therefore continue to be a main theme in our conservation programme. Concurrent themes, include protection and restoration of biodiversity within the context of sustainable development.
