Recognizing the importance of environmental education in the effective management of protected areas, a number of environmental education activities have been initiated in the six protected areas of Bhutan targeting mostly on local communities and schools. While some parks are quite established and better equipped to deliver environmental education programs, some are only beginning to start. Thus there is a need to support those parks and bring them to the same level as others and also to focus on local environmental issues and involve relevant stakeholders in a participatory manner right from the planning of the program itself. As much as possible we also need to integrate education and awareness component into the existing park programs to address resource constraints.
