Introduction of the Organization
Objective:

Gono Unnayan Prochesta (GUP) was initiated out of the working experiences with the affected people in the rural areas of Bangladesh since shortly after the war of independence in 1971.
Objectives: Within the basic premise of belief in the individual's power to bring about changes in his or her life GUP aims to facilitate the process of:

1)Enabling the people in identifying their problems to which solutions can be found by themselves.
2)Empowering the powerless through conscientisation efforts to increase individual strength, action, decision-making power and capacity building.
3)Stimulating cooperative efforts to mobilize resources and capital in the community for the promotion of self-reliant people's organizations and institutions.
4)Promoting human rights, education, social justice, ecological balance, harmony and peace in the community by overcoming exploitation, Gender discrimination, poverty, ILL-Health, Illiteracy, unemployment and all forms of injustices through systematic non-violent actions.
5)Complementing effective national efforts in assisting the development of the disadvantaged groups and in initiating innovative people's development approach, which may eventually inspire other organizations.

GUP has been one of the pioneering organizations in the country in making people aware of regenerative agriculture, water, sanitation and other environmental aspects. GUP is also instrumental in building/upbringing of many environmental networks and Forums at regional and national level.
